In a recent USA Today article, 24/7 Wall St. reviewed the largest industry in each state based on total gross domestic product (GDP) contribution from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. It found that Ohio’s largest industry is insurance carriers and related activities.

The most recent data states Ohio’s insurance industry GDP contribution as $25.4 billion (4.3% of total) and the five-year industry GDP change as +47.1%.

The data also shows the industry workforce includes 109,185 individuals, representing 2.5% of total employment and the average industry salary is $77,914, which is 56% higher than Ohio's average private sector annual salary of $49,988.
