On Oct. 24, 2023, the Ohio Insurance Institute honored Tracey Lamerson with the 2023 Insurance Educator of the Year Award for excellence in insurance and financial literacy education.

Lamerson is a social studies teacher at Unioto High School in Chillicothe, OH and has been teaching financial literacy as part of her Civics and U.S. Government class for 15 years. Lamerson’s financial literacy course covers topics ranging from insurance and banking to resume building and retirement planning. She has also partnered with Junior Achievement to teach her students important job skills they’ll benefit from as they move toward adulthood.

Lamerson was honored at an awards dinner held during OII’s Annual Meeting. She received an engraved recognition plaque and an Ohio Insurance Institute grant of $500 to take an insurance-related workshop. The OII will also make a $500 donation to Unioto High School.

Lamerson earned an associate degree in legal assisting and a bachelor’s degree in social sciences/pre-law from Shawnee State University. She also earned a master’s degree in education from the University of Rio Grande.
